Today we turned in over 1000 signatures, well over the 597 minimum needed for a referendum to let the residents decide if a homeless car park should be allowed at Cultural Park. We are very confident that after the city and county finish their verification process, we will have more than enough valid signatures to
qualify for the November Ballot.
We are grateful for the amazing and passionate residents of Sedona who are united on this issue and signed our referendum petition. This is a remarkable achievement considering this was a grassroots effort accomplished in just three weeks after the City Council approved the zoning change on March 12th. Resident’s have made it clear that they want their voice and input considered on decisions of this significance by a ballot vote.

All those who signed the referendum petition: Understand that your signature places an item on the November ballot to revert the zoning change at the Cultural Park property thereby disallowing the Safe Place To Park program to operate there. It DOES NOT KILL the Safe Place To Park program, which could start next month at another location. If you thought your signaled an intent to kill the program, you didn’t read the petition carefully.
Let me stay that again, because those that worked to get your signature didn’t make that point clear enough, I feel (in many online media posts and radio interviews): Reverting the zoning change with A NOVEMBER YES VOTE ONLY MEANS THE PROGRAM CANNOT BE SITED AT THE CULTURAL PARK. THE SAFE PLACE TO PARK PROGRAM CAN GO ANYWHERE CURRENT ZONING ALLOWS!
Can’t believe we have that many unsympathetic residents here who also hypocritically depend on the services of the very folks they are preventing from having a safe place to stay. Whether it’s a loophole in zoning or something else their ignorance will persist.

How about business pay employees a living wage???? How about raising prices so employees can live with dignity !! TJ Hall says Sedona depends on their services, so we want a place where they can live in their car !!
Instead you want slaves to live in the fields. Even slaves were provided housing with a roof over their head where they could stand up. If businesses can’t pay a living wage the either raise prices or go out of business.

If the problem is employer greed rather than housing availability for Sedona employees then why is it Bashas is paying folks $18+ an hour just to sweep floors?
Sure there are employers who like to rake in profits and screw over staff, but those employers saw what happens when they do that BS during the Great Resignation. If you know of any employers here in Sedona who are paying minimum wage or below sans benefits then you should compile a full list of them and post them on here.
Sedona is very much full of insensitive hypocrites as I have stated and as has been evidenced here. That is not an Alternative Fact! There are also many very good, generous, honest, well meaning people here. As in every society you have good and bad people.
The City is trying to do good by good people and your counter to it is that it is a deceptive ploy to enslave people who are already employed here and living out in the sticks or in small hides around town. So how would providing a centralized place that has facilities these people desperately need but do not have like potable water, showers, electricity and security so terrible?
Imagine this job posting:
Low wage job available, no benefits. Expensive area so you must provide your own mobile housing. We will provide showers and outside toilets. You must move your housing unit at 8AM daily.
Those of us who voted Democrat have opened the borders to every low skilled worker in the world so there is a lot of competition for your low wage job.
By the way, the immigrants get many subsidies, and if they bring their elderly parents with them the elder parents get Maximum Social Security Benefits at retirement age, regardless of how long they have been in the country.

There is NO AFFORDABLE HOUSING AVAILABLE in Sedona nor anywhere within a sensible driving distance of it that won’t consume an individuals pay check on gas alone! I agree! Employers should be funding every bit of any services the City has to provide their employees who are homeless! I’m certain some of the employers who have monopolized restaurants, hotels, BnB’s and gem and mineral stores from one end of Sedona and VOC to the other can certainly afford to directly fund some permanent housing for their employees. The small time mom and pop places who do not have employees should NOT have to contribute as they are likely scraping by as it is.
Not sure why you are upset that the City is TRYING to do the right thing here if your beef is with greedy employers? Why not confront and bad mouth them rather than the good people trying to do good things?
