Verde Valley News – What better way to ‘kick the tires’ on a learning community than to sample a session, and see if it’s useful, for no charge at all? Yavapai College’s Sedona/Verde OLLI program launches its Fall Semester with a free community event: “Health & Wellness 50-Plus” with Yavapai College Nursing Professor Gillian Troxel, Tuesday August 20, from 2 – 3:30 p.m., in Room 34 of the Sedona Center, 4215 Arts Village Drive, in Sedona.

OLLI’s special guest presenter is Gillian Troxel, MSN, RN, an Associate Professor of Nursing at Yavapai College. “Health and Wellness 50-Plus” is an informative and engaging presentation that includes helpful information tailored for senior men and women. Topics will include the ten most common health issues affecting people over 50; practical ways to improve and maintain physical and mental wellness; and how to create a personalized health care plan.

In addition to Troxel’s talk, OLLI volunteers and staff will share details and answer questions about OLLI’s Fall 2024 Term including classes and activities, benefits of membership, and volunteer opportunities. The program concludes with a recognition of OLLI All-Stars, members who have contributed to the success of OLLI. Come and learn about taking and teaching classes!

The Osher Lifelong Learning Initiative (OLLI) is a local, volunteer, peer-to-peer, adult education program. Offered as an extension of Yavapai College, OLLI provides many learning groups and workshops each term for a nominal fee. Registration is open now for Fall Term that begins August 26. For more information about OLLI or the Sedona/Verde Fall Launch event, please call 928-649-4275, email ollisv@yc.edu, or visit www.yc.edu/ollisv.
