Mariinsky Theatre production from St. Petersburg debuts on the big screen at Fisher Theatre
Sedona AZ (October 5, 2012) – The Sedona International Film Festival presents Ballet in Cinema on Monday, Oct. 15 when it hosts the big screen premiere of “Giselle” from the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. There will be one show at 4:00 p.m. at the festival’s Mary D. Fisher Theatre.
With music by Adolphe Charles Adam, “Giselle” is performed by the stars, principal dancers and corps of the Mariinsky Theatre Ballet. The production is choreographed by Marius Petipa, Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot. Artistic director is Valery Gergiev, and the orchestra is conducted by Valery Ovsyanikov. Natalia Osipova and Leonid Sarafanov star in the principal roles.
“Giselle”, from the historic Mariinsky Theatre in St. Peterburg, captures the beauty and movement of a world-class performance in a new and mesmerising way. The corps de ballet fan away from the viewer and the prima ballerinas dance with stunning realism, giving cinema audiences worldwide a ‘best seat in the house’ experience wherever they happen to sit.
“Giselle” is the story of a simple village girl who falls deeply in love with a dashing prince disguised as a peasant. The idyllic pastoral scene is shattered by an act of betrayal and the ensuing heartbreak. In the ballet blanc second act, Giselle haunts the stage with her host of vengeful spirits, but ultimately the strength of her love transcends even death and bestows forgiveness upon her repentant lover.
“Giselle” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on one day only: Monday, Oct. 15 at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $15, or $12.50 for Film Festival members. Tickets are available in advance at the Sedona International Film Festival office or by calling 282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A, in West Sedona.
