Award-winning new award-winning independent films premiere at Mary D. Fisher Theatre
Sedona AZ (July 30, 2013) – The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premieres of “Farewell to Fools” and “20 Feet From Stardom” showing Aug. 5-9 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre.
FAREWELL TO FOOLS
Gérard Depardieu and Harvey Keitel star in the world premiere film event: “Farewell to Fools”.
Set during World War II somewhere in Romania, a German soldier is found dead near a village. The local authorities must finger the culprit, or they will all be shot by Nazis the following morning. There’s no way to find the guilty party, as there are no suspects; but there is Ipu (Gérard Depardieu) the village idiot.
The town leaders, led by Harvey Keitel, pressure Ipu to claim responsibility for the soldier’s death and die in the place of the real criminal. Ipu is promised a hero’s funeral if he will claim responsibility and agree to die in place of the real criminal. Ipu must decide quickly before the fate of the entire town is sealed.
Seen through the eyes of a young boy, we witness the comedy and tragedy of human nature as the villagers attempt to convince a once proud man into sacrificing himself so that they might live to cower another day.
“Farewell to Fools” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre Aug. 5-9. Showtimes will be 4 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, and 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.
20 FEET FROM STARDOM
Millions know their voices, but no one knows their names. In his compelling new film “20 Feet From Stardom”, award-winning director Morgan Neville shines a spotlight on the untold true story of the backup singers behind some of the greatest musical legends of the 21st century.
Triumphant and heartbreaking in equal measure, the film is both a tribute to the unsung voices who brought shape and style to popular music and a reflection on the conflicts, sacrifices and rewards of a career spent harmonizing with others.
These gifted artists span a range of styles, genres and eras of popular music, but each has a uniquely fascinating and personal story to share of life spent in the shadows of superstardom. Along with rare archival footage and a peerless soundtrack, “20 Feet From Stardom” boasts intimate interviews with Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Mick Jagger and Sting to name just a few. However, these world-famous figures take a backseat to the diverse array of backup singers whose lives and stories take center stage in the film.
“20 Feet From Stardom” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre Aug. 5-9. Showtimes will be 7 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, and 4 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday.
