Sedona AZ (February 19, 2020) – On Sunday, March 22, 2020, Chamber Music Sedona will present “The Unfolding of Music,” a concert performed by cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han. Hailed by The New York Times as “chamber music’s power couple,” Finckel and Han’s endeavors as concert performers, recording artists, artistic administrators, educators and cultural entrepreneurs have earned them a place among today’s most influential and esteemed classical musicians. Held at 3 p.m. at the Sedona Performing Arts Center, “The Unfolding of Music” will feature works spanning nearly a quarter of a millennium, including sonatas by Bach, Beethoven, Debussy, Mendelssohn and Britten.
Recipients of Musical America’s Musicians of the Year award–one of the music industry’s highest and most prestigious honors–Finckel and Han routinely dazzle audiences and critics alike with performances at leading venues and concert series around the world. The duo’s profound talent, energy, dedication and imagination have garnered unanimous critical acclaim. In addition to performing at Chamber Music Sedona, highlights of their 2019-20 season include a new CD release, a national special on PBS, numerous international performances and more.
Currently in their third term as Artistic Directors of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS), Finckel and Han have spearheaded several initiatives that have brought the joy of chamber music to new audiences worldwide. For instance, they have overseen the establishment and design of the acclaimed CMS Live and CMS Studio labels, as well as new global broadcasting initiatives through partnerships with Medici TV, Radio Television Hong Kong and the All Arts broadcast channel. Finckel and Han are also the founders and Artistic Directors of Music@Menlo, a renowned chamber music festival and institute in Silicon Valley, and the Chamber Music Today festival in Seoul, South Korea.
In addition to their roles as musicians and artistic leaders, Finckel and Han are also admired as cultural entrepreneurs. In 1997, they created ArtistLed, the first musician-directed and internet-based recording company in the classical music world. Born of the desire to be able to produce recordings free from commercial, technical, artistic and procedural constraints, ArtistLed allows musicians to control every aspect of the recording process and offer their records directly to consumers. This unique approach yields performances that combine the spontaneity and excitement of a live concert with the musical perfection of a studio recording.
For “The Unfolding of Music” on March 22, general admission tickets are $40 for adults and $10 for students aged 13-21 with ID. Admission is free for children 12 and under.
