Sedona AZ (May 1, 2012) – The popular Cathedral Rock Trail on the Red Rock Ranger District will be receiving some needed enhancement to allow for improved hiker experience and to protect the trail from further erosion. Project work is scheduled to begin Wednesday May 9 and will continue through Saturday, May 12. The trail will be temporarily closed the first two days of construction to allow for public safety while the Coconino Rural Environmental Corps Crew works to move several large boulders along the trail and to create a rock stairway. Additional trail work will include developing water diversion structures to reduce soil erosion and to maintain the trail for continued long term safety and public enjoyment.
The Forest Service asks the public to please avoid the Cathedral Rock Trail construction area and trail during the temporary closure. Access to the Templeton Trail from the Cathedral Rock Trailhead parking area will remain open and available to the public. For more information concerning this project, please contact the Red Rock Ranger District at (928) 203-7500.
