It’s in the darkest room that a lit match shines the brightest. In Sedona there are those who give light from the heart to dispel the darkness of human suffering, especially now during the Covid19 pandemic that has affected so many lives. Organizers of the community’s Two-Fer Tuesdays continue to provide the needy with staples and supplies to improve their lives, and offer hope.
The organization is focusing on supporting young moms and their families negatively impacted by job loss, stress and depression during the pandemic.
This month, Two-For Tuesday is directing its effort on collecting baby clothes and supplies for the Naomi Center in the Navajo Nation and the Abide Pregnancy Center in Camp Verde.
Two-For Tuesday is asking the compassionate residents of Sedona and Verde Valley to donate what they can too help in this humanitarian endeavor.
The Naomi House needs Size 1 diapers, baby wipes, lotion, shampoo, baby girl clothes (3-6 months), Desitin, dish soap, laundry soap, Lysol wipes, paper plates and snack foods.
Abide House/Center needs size3-6 diapers, wipes and baby boy clothes (3 months to 2 T)
This month, there will be two donation collection locations: one located at the Sedona United Methodist Church, 110 Indian Cliffs Rd., Sedona, 86336 (Back O’ Beyond Roundabout).
The other location will be at Café Jose Restaurant at 2370 AZ 89 A, Suite 1, Sedona, 86336, (next to McDonalds, Safeway Shopping Center).
The collection will occur Tuesday, April 27 from 9 a.m to 4 p.m.
Two-For Tuesday organizer Andrea Kadar continuous pressing forward to meet the goals of her organization.
“We are thrilled to have an opportunity to help two centers, providing encouragement and baby supplies to young moms and young families during the shut-downs, the stressful Covid months, the job loss difficulties, and the unfortunate depression that has been the result of all these events,” she said. “Please join us to bless young mom families.”
Andrea joked on what cashiers and people waiting on line at the supermarket will think when they see Baby Boomers buying baby supplies.
“I dare all of you “oldies but goodies” to buy diapers and stand nonchalantly in the grocery or Wal-Mart check-out line,” she said. The stares we will all get will be worth the price of admission.”
The Two-Fer Tuesday ministry was founded during the pandemic of 2020 in an effort to bless, encourage and support small business, professional organizations, local 501 C 3’s, law enforcement, indigenous peoples and the underprivileged.
In 2020 Two-Fer Tueday helped thousands of people. Here is a list of its works:
March 24: A “Support Sedona Small Business Two-Fer”: Organized a social-distancing/parking lot lunch party to support J Wine Bistro and Rotten Johnny’s Pizza in the Village of Oak Creek. The party team purchased food from both restaurants to keep both open and profitable in the middle of the pandemic.
March 31: A “Support Sedona Small Business Two-Fer”: Hosted a support day for Cleaner, Quicker Car Wash and Café Jose Restaurant, Sedona. Patrons of the car wash got 25% off car washes and were awarded 7 dozen home-baked cookies as they exited the car wash. Also, we arranged for participants to get a coupon for 25 % off a burger at Café Jose after exiting car wash. The idea was to drive customers to both and save both small businesses during the pandemic. 100+ cars showed up.
April 7: A “Support Sedona and Village of Oak Creek Food Banks Two-Fer”: Organized a team to collect of food donations for both the Sedona Food Bank and the Church of the Nazarene Food Bank to help feed Verde Valley residents who had lost their jobs. Got Yavapai Co. Attorney Sheila Polk to join us and to assist us in accepting food donations. Filled three trucks and the church lobby with supplies.
April 14: A “Support Two Non-Profits Two-Fer”: Organized a food donation drive and cash donations drive on behalf of Steps to Recovery Drug Rehab. in Cottonwood -and- the Verde Valley Sanctuary in Sedona. The team helped drug addicted residents feel supported with food and supplies -and- we helped house, feed and comfort domestic violence victims during the pandemic. Senator Sylvia Allen (LD 6) helped us deliver supplies and donations. Filled five trucks with supplies.
April 21: A “Support a Small Business and a Non-Profit Two-Fer”: Partnered with Cleaner Quicker Car Wash by hosting a donations bucket/table at their location to collect stuffed animals for abused kids rescued by the Yavapai Family Advocacy Center in Prescott. Sheila Polk and Sedona Police Chief Husted assisted. Filled 6 cabinets, the YFAC hallway and E.D.’s office; raised another $2,000 in cash.
April 23: A “Support Sedona Small Business BONUS! Three-Fer”: Organized a special Thursday event so that the team could support and advertise three small Sedona businesses -and- drive activity to their locations: Judi’s restaurant, Vino Di Sedona, and Sound Bites Grill. Added a BONUS: jewelry sold at a deep discount from My Jeweler for any Three-Fer participants who showed proof of supporting all three of the Three-Fer small businesses on that same day. Business boomed!
April 28: A “Call Your Government Officials and Tell Them to OPEN UP Two-Fer”: Via email, advertising and social media, instructed participants to call Gov. Ducey’s message line and email all the Sedona City Council to ask all to open our economy. City Council reported getting over 500 emails in an hour.
May 5th: A “Support Our Police Two-Fer”: Organized a cash donation drive to buy gift cards from McDonalds for Sedona and Cottonwood law enforcement in the Verde Valley. We were able to raise $2,000 for 200 $10 gift cards for ALL our police in the Verde Valley, including Clarkdale, Camp Verde and Yav. Co. Sheriff’s office.
June 16: A “Support the Navajo Nation Two-Fer”: Partnered with the Sedona United Methodist Church to collect donations for Abide House (Camp Verde) and Naomi House on the Navajo Nation to support young mothers on the Navajo Nation with diapers and baby supplies. Senator Allen and Rep. Barton assisted us.
June 22: A “Pray for Our Police Two-Fer”: Scheduled a special event at Sedona City Hall to pray for our police. More than 40 believing Patriots came to pray with us for our law enforcement; had to move the event outdoors to accommodate crowd.
July 14: A “Support the Hopi Nation and Vets Serving Vets Two-Fer”: Partnered with Robin Briggman, Hopi descendant, and Vets Serving Vets to raise money and gather donations for the Hopi Nation in K-Town. Our team collected supplies that were delivered on July 22 to K-town between the Second and the Third Mesa on the Nation. Filled a large trailer, two truck beds, an SUV and all of the passenger space.
August 21: A “Support the Hopi Nation with water and canned meat” -and- fill the Sedona Food Bank’s Special Wish list “Philanthropy Friday” (an extension of Two-Fer Tuesday): Partnered with Cathy Healy Baiza, Robin Briggman and our team (and donors) to provide food bank supplies and more Hopi Nation supplies.
September 23: the “Hopi Support Team Two-Fer” delivered nearly $3,000 of water containers/canned meat to K-Town, Hopi Nation. Filled the shelves at Sedona FB.
December 8: Organized a donation drive for “West Yavapai Guidance Clinic/Suicide Prevention Coalition Two-Fer” to raise awareness on suicide prevention via the purchase of awareness “swag“ (pins, stickers, bracelets, posters) and gun cabinet locks). Provided 100 home-made cookies with the “crisis call number” on a cookie label for donors and locals. Raised $1,000 in three hours.
February 23: A “Support the Hopi’s Two-Fer: Warm Clothes, Firewood” event. Four trucks and three trailers were filled for delivery on March 5.
