Sedona AZ (October 4, 2019) – Jana Bommersbach believes that the case of Debra Milke was a disgusting case of injustice. For a quarter-century, Arizona was certain Debra Milke was a baby killer. We believed she belonged on death row for having her four-year-old son killed on his way to see Santa. And then in 2013, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ask Arizona how it ever convicted this woman in the first place, declaring it must either give her a new trial or set her free. The ruling sent shockwaves through the state and its legal community. In 2015 the Arizona Court of Appeals agreed and freed Debra Milke, saying her case was “a stain on the legal system of Arizona” and they hope to never see a case like this again. Jana Bommersbach spent three years investigating this sensational murder case, finding the shocking truth. She herself had always believed Milke was guilty and now realizes “I have never been so wrong.”
Jana Bommersbach is one of Arizona’s most acclaimed journalists. The Arizona Press Club honored her lifetime of achievement with its highest honor: The Distinguished Service Award.
