Sedona AZ (December 28, 2012) – As the Sedona Public Library looks ahead to the New Year, we thank you for your support during 2012 and look forward to another successful year of providing library service to visitors and residents of Sedona and the Verde Valley.
The Youth Services Department invites ages 5 to 17 to make a mini-book during a workshop on Monday, December 31, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Si Birch Community Room. Once your book is assembled, use it to write your own words for the New Year. On Wednesday, January 2 and Friday, January 4 share a story with one of the dogs participating in the Paws to Read program. This is the rest of the holiday schedule for the Youth Department: Wednesday, January 2, the homeschoolers meet at 1:30 p.m.; Thursday, January 3, it’s Lego time; and Friday, January 4, at 2 p.m. we’ll be showing a family movie (call 928-282-7714 for the title).
Karen Mack, Youth Services Librarian, is looking forward to participating in the Sedona Marathon on Saturday, February 2 and raising money for Library operations through pledges. Karen issued this challenge: If, by the day of the race, a minimum total of $2,013 is pledged in support of Sedona Public Library, she will complete the entire 5K Sedona Marathon with a copy of her favorite book and a monkey balanced on her head! Karen’s official pledge sheet is at the Sedona Library youth reference desk and will be there until the race. Drop in, make a pledge, meet Karen and her monkey, and on February 2, find out the title of her favorite book.
Patricia Lowell would like to alert patrons about Reference Department services. We now have the Arizona Booklet X, volume 1, of the reproducible AZ tax forms for 2012. One copy is at the Reference Desk and another copy is near the public copy machine. The IRS is aware of the great interest in the 2012 tax forms, instructions and publications, and therefore, is shipping tax products as they become available. Since the availability of some tax products is impacted by pending congressional action, please note that instruction booklets may arrive weeks after you receive tax forms this year. Volunteers from the AARP Tax Preparation service will be available starting Tuesday, February 5. Both the Arizona and IRS forms are available online.
Marcela Saldivia, Latino Services Librarian, celebrated the end of the fall session of the English as a Second Language classes with a holiday party in December. The next session of classes will start on Wednesday, January 9 at 6:30 p.m. Anyone interested in attending the classes is welcome.
The Latino Services Department is co-hosting an Open Community Forum and Potluck with Sedona’s City Mayor Rob Adams and the Hispanic Community on Monday, January 14 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Wesleyan Church located at 580 Brewer Road.
Resolve this year to support the Friends of the Library’s latest effort to raise funds. All you need to do is purchase a Bashas’ Community Card at the Library’s reference desk for $10 (they are not available for purchase at the grocery store). Once the card is loaded, use it just like a prepaid gift card to make your purchase. At the completion of your purchase, you will receive a register slip showing the amount left on your card. Each time you load dollars onto your Community Card, the Friends of the Sedona Library receives 6% of that amount. Using the Community Card does not cost you any more money than you would normally spend on groceries.
Over 50 quilts will be on display during the annual Quilt Show, showcasing the creativity of our local quilters against the architectural beauty of the Library. This community event is in its twentieth year, and again a diverse show of traditional and contemporary art quilts promises to be stunning. The show runs from December 27, 2012, through February 7, 2013.
Founded in 1958, Sedona Public Library is a non-profit corporation that serves the community as a public library. When considering a year-end gift, please keep in mind that the Library’s continued upkeep of the building and grounds relies on your support. To make a tax-deductible contribution to the Library, mail your gift to Sedona Public Library, 3250 White Bear Road, Sedona, AZ 86336.
From the Board of Trustees, staff and volunteers of the Sedona Public Library, we wish you a prosperous and joyful New Year and hope to see you at the Library in 2013!
