ADOT SR179 construction update for the week of Oct 6

Village of Oak Creek (Project 1): Landscape Contract Signed

Sedona, AZ - October 04, 2008 -  The much anticipated landscape project in the Village of Oak Creek became one step closer to beginning when the contract with Recon, Inc. was signed on Thursday, October 2. Work is anticipated to begin before the end of this year. Stay tuned to the SR 179 e-news update for more information on the landscaping that will further enhance the beautiful new road and sidewalks in the Village of Oak Creek.

Digging at Bow String Drive

Sedona (Project 2)

Bowstring Drive to Remain Closed

Due to hard digging and continued utility coordination in the area of Bowstring Drive, the road will remain closed and traffic detoured for an estimated two more weeks. Pictured here is the trench in which crews are working.

This is a critical area for the community’s utility services such as gas, water, sewer, cable, and electric. Most of the community’s utilities lie within the SR 179 corridor, but in this area they start to spread out quite a bit to service neighborhoods.

Crews have encountered rock conditions, making digging slower, and are carefully maneuvering through the maze of utilities located here.

Concrete Work in Business District

Concrete crews are making visible and swift progress on curb, gutter, sidewalks, and driveways throughout the business district. Driveways are blocked only during the pouring and setting of the concrete, which takes a matter of hours. Businesses with only one driveway have their driveways poured one half at a time to maintain access.

Paving Crews Mobilize to Sedona Area

The contractor will bring paving crews to the Sedona area next week. Temporary pavement will be laid in areas where traffic needs to be shifted to create a work zone, and permanent pavement will be laid in areas that are ready. Temporary pavement is laid directly on top of the ground while permanent pavement is laid on top of layers of aggregate base.

Traffic Shift in Poco Diablo Area

Passersby may notice in the area just south of Poco Diablo that a travel lane can be seen forming between temporary concrete barriers off to the side of the southbound lane. This area is ready for temporary pavement so traffic can be shifted and work can begin on the northbound side.
