Sergio Mendes at the JCC in Sedona on Oct 18 “Artists In Rhythm” in collaboration with the Jewish Community of Sedona and the Verde Valley, will be presenting the last of four benefit concerts of the year, featuring Susannah Martin and her delicious Portuguese singing, along with guest trumpeter/percussionist Steve Annibale. Sergio Mendes is the undisputed master of pop infected Brazilian jazz, and from 1968 on was arguably the biggest Brazilian star in the world.
Known for his arrangements of tunes by Jobim, Burt Bacharach, the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Jorge Ben and others, his music is a hybrid of jazz, bossa nova and American pop. Backing up Martin and Annibale is the rhythm section of Steve Sandner on piano, Kevin McQuaid on drums and Artists in Rhythm owner Steve Douglas on bass. Some featured songs include “The
Look of Love,” “Mais Que Nada,” “Agua de Beber,”
“One Note Samba,” “So Many Stars,” “Fool On The
Hill,” “Wave,” and “Day Tripper.” The JCC is
located at 100 Meadowlark Dr. just off Hwy 179 in
the chapel area of Sedona. Tickets are $15 and kids
18 under are encouraged to attend for free.
