Frank Fara & Patty Parker |
Sedona Serenade
(Sedona, Arizona ) -
It was a thousand to one shot - but it happened. The
prestigious Wall Street Journal did a special front page story
on the musical productions of Frank Fara and Patty Parker.
And seemingly to prove lighting can strike twice the CNN
Television network quickly followed up with their own special
feature on Patty Parker as one of Nashville's especially
interesting female record producers. Overnight they had
become discovered!
But that's not where the
story started. You have to go back to Los Angeles in the
turbulent 70's to find the birthplace of the uniquely gifted
couple. Patty and Frank met at a music jam session and
quickly found they shared a lot of creative energies. Soon
they started channeling them into Frank's original songs and at
the same time forming a band. They honed their stage
skills at a small bistro in Anaheim and then hooked up with an
agent to get them on the road.
Within six months they were
on the stage at Lake Tahoe and tapped into the exciting casino
circuit. The exhilarating places and accommodating work
hours left them day hours to work on original songs and
productions. Frank began to write about the places they
would visit and Patty assembled music productions around them to
complete the recordings. Fans responded very
enthusiastically and soon they were regulars being invited back
to perform their own songs of local lore and beautiful places.

"Sedona Serenade" |
After five years of touring
they decided to close their record show down to devote full time
to their music and songs. TV personality Heidi Fogelsong,
of ABC Channel 3 Phoenix, played an important part in getting
them off to the right start from their home base in Arizona.
She did a special news feature on the debut of Frank and Patty's
song "Sedona Serenade." The day it ran the phones started
ringing and soon their special song on Sedona became an
"unofficial-official" song of the area. It has appeared in
videos on Sedona, played on tour buses and was heralded by town
officials as the one song to truly capture the essence of
Sedona's Red Rock Country.
Next came songs written on
other Arizona's treasures; the Grand Canyon and the Saguaro
cactus. The "Song of the Grand Canyon" immediately found
favor with many tourist oriented organizations. Since
Arizona's trademark cactus had never been colorfully captured in
song, Frank & Patty did their own whimsical version of it
entitled "Hotel Saguaro." Soon the "Song of the Grand
Canyon", "Hotel Saguaro", and "Sedona Serenade" became
affectionately known as the Arizona Trilogy.
Most recently this husband
and wife team combined efforts to write their first Southwest
Christmas song, entitled "La Noche Buena, It's Christmas Eve."
The story of the song is set in the mystical city of Santa Fe,
New Mexico and blends native culture and holiday tradition with
modern romance. Patty sings the song in a warm, classic
approach and produced the music with some of the world's top
musicians in Nashville. It will now be promoted annually
not only in Santa Fe and the State of New Mexico, but also
worldwide through their personal efforts.
Looking to the future expect
more songs extolling the unique beauty and fascinating history
of Arizona and New Mexico.
About Comstock Records
Comstock Records was born in 1978, the same
year that its founders Frank Fara and Patty Parker closed down
their popular Country road show. Fara & Parker had been on tour
in the United States and Canada for the five previous years
promoting The Frank Fara Show featuring Patty Parker. The
highlight of the show was Pretty Patty on vocals & drums (then
one of the only female country music drummers touring) and
Frank's true grit songs of the real West.
In every town they played
their first stop was always the local radio station to present
their latest single record release. In this way they visited
hundreds of DJ's and radio stations across all North America.
Soon their singles and album were being played from the tip of
Texas far up into Canada and beyond. History was in the making.
Their homegrown
promotions worked so well that other road bands & singers were
soon attracted to their success. One of the first to notice was
Canadian singer Alex Fraser. He asked Frank & Patty if they
could do for him what they had been doing for themselves -Get
his record on the radio! At that moment Comstock Records became
a reality. Alex's first record, produced & promoted by Comstock
went on to become his and Comstock's first Top Ten national
single! Alex Fraser's career blossomed into nominations, TV
shows and a national distribution deal.
In 1984 Fara and Parker
were introduced to a lady DJ in England. That chance meeting led
to a trip to the UK and introductions to many new DJ friends who
were just catching the Country Music wave. It didn't take long
before Comstock had networks of supporting stations all across
Europe. In years to follow more and more nations and stations
have been added to Comstock's mailing list until it is now truly
one of most known country promotion labels in the world.
A label is only as good
as its artists and Comstock is proud that it has the best. In
1998 Comstock was awarded Indie label of the year in Europe by
the ECMA. In the words of one DJ...Comstock has succeeded
because of its quality - it's the Mercedes of Indie labels!
