Earth & Sky in
Sedona
Sedona, AZ (Sedona.biz) -
In 1998 Larry and Gayle Taylor
moved to Sedona, AZ. After spending time in
corporate America, they were ready to turn their passion for art
into a full time business. The result was Earth & Sky
Creations by Taylor, an artistic sculpture company formed by the
husband and wife team.

Gayle and Larry work
collaboratively, producing exciting mixed media sculptures
composed of metal, ceramics, and sometimes neon.
Larry creates the metal sculptures
and ambient neon lighting while Gayle molds and fires the clay into
ceramics and applies
paints and finishes to the metal. After
33 years of marriage and working together, they can almost read
each other's thoughts, making for a seamless and unique blend of
these different textured materials.
Earth & Sky Creations
focuses primarily on commissioned work for private art collectors
and specializes in creating unique one-of-a-kind pieces that
range from large outdoor sculptures to complex artistic compositions.

The couple's love and appreciation for art
and their corporate experience are an important combination.
It has taught them to use their own artistic inspiration while
considering the thoughts and wishes of a diverse range of
clients; from the planning of the sculpture, through the
commission process and the final installation. Their
ability to meet their customer's needs and vision, create a
design concept based upon the discussion and meet deadlines
creates a comfortable relationship with their clients which
often results in a long term relationship involving multiple
commissioned pieces.
Style
Art lovers gravitate to
Larry & Gayle's work because the combination of metal, neon, and ceramic is
not only dramatic and beautiful, but also very unique. Few
artists have the technical skill or physical space to create
large sculptures made of these materials. Gayle's favorite
ceramic style is Raku. In this process the clay is fired
to around 1800 (F ) in a kiln. The pottery is then removed
and placed in a metal can with combustible material, typically
newspaper. The fire uses up the oxygen in the "reduction
stage" that creates the varied colors and metallic luster.
After 15 minutes the pottery is removed and dunked in water to
"freeze" the patterns.
Studio
The Taylor's beautiful home
in Sedona is their studio and is a mixture of art gallery and
workshop.
The residence was featured in "Better Homes and Gardens Building
Ideas Magazine" and has hosted many architectural and artistic
tour groups. Larry spends most of his time in the converted garage soldering
and welding large strips of steel that he purchases from local
yards or has delivered from Phoenix. At the same time,
Gayle is busy molding and firing the clay in kilns in and around
their home.

Exhibits & Awards
The Taylor's work has been exhibited in
galleries in Texas, Florida, Connecticut, and Arizona.
Although they have won numerous first place awards, the creative
process is what's most important to them. We found these first place
ribbons tacked unassumingly in Gayle's workshop.

Testimonials
We loved working with the Larry & Gayle,
and we've commissioned multiple pieces.
They are not only wonderful artists but they've also become good
friends. They listened to our needs and produced a
wonderful, abstract wall hanging made of ceramic and steel; and
Larry even hung it for us! - Jodi Sansone
About Larry & Gayle
Larry & Gayle caught "red rock fever" on a
vacation to Sedona. At the time, they were living in Texas
after Larry transferred in his corporate job from southeastern Florida.
They bought land in Sedona and built their own home. They
originally created artwork as a relaxing pastime and made it a business after they moved to Sedona.
