SEDONA, AZ (October 28, 2009) - On Friday
November 6th, Goldenstein Gallery kicks
off their acclaimed 3rd annual Chi:
Art as a Healing Medium. This distinctive
exhibition, coupled with free talks by Chinese Zen
”Soul Calligrapher” Alok
Hsu Kwang-han and Artist, Activist and Author
Mary Fisher, two people who have changed the world,
explores the greater healing impact of fine art on
our lives.
"I believe art is
healing, but it’s very powerful when the intention
of the artist is to imbue love and healing energy
into the work," says gallery owner Linda Goldenstein,
"Though the featured artists come from a variety of
mediums collectively their work reflects that
purpose."
The
artists featured are sculptor Liz Wolf, Zen
Calligrapher Alok, and multi-media artists Sherab
Khandro, Mary Fisher and Gloria Rothrock, work in a
variety of mediums and styles. This show is part of
the 2nd Annual Red Rock Canvas: The Event running
Nov. 6, 7 and 8 presented by the Sedona Gallery
Association.
Celebrated bronze sculptor Liz Wolf feels
that she channels life into images through her
artwork. Fascinated by the connections between
humans, animals, spirituality and the world, her
work captures the essence of our innermost feelings.
Wolf says of her work “When
a work of art is not art for art’s sake, but instead
holds a place in everyday life it possesses a
religious or magical quality and may even capture a
part of one’s spirit or soul.”
Sherab Khandro’s
wish is to inspire the hearts and minds of others
through her art. She is one of a handful of western
artists to receive formal training in bringing forth
the traditional Buddhist art in the way it has been
done in Tibet for centuries. Using the
neo-impressionist style of pointillism in her
paintings, tiny dots of color create rich and
vibrant imagery; each stroke of the brush holds a
prayer of compassion. A renowned sculptor, Khandro
debuts two new bronze sculptures “Flame of
Compassion and “Flame” in this year’s show.
Mary Fisher>
is an author, speaker and artist who works across a
wide range of media, from handmade paper, fiber art
and quilts to sculpture, prints and jewelry. Mary's
art is found in distinguished private and public
collections throughout the United States and the
world. Her art, words, and photographs have been
collected in five books. In 2006, her art was
exhibited at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum,
and her sculptures were added to the permanent
collection of the UNAIDS headquarters in Geneva,
Switzerland.
Multi-Media artist
Gloria Rothrock’s need to create and express
her passion permeates her life. She sees it as an
adventure to be a conduit for Spirit flowing through
her heart and hands. Her work celebrates the dance
of Spirit, nature, and humanity. A particularly
poignant subject has been her version of a Female
icon. The icons depict multi-cultural, mixed ethnic
women who are meditating. She aptly calls this
series the Serenity Sisters and will unveil her
Buddha Brothers series.
